These little ladies are from the Peachy Keen range, part of the Eat Me; Keep Me series. The Eat Me; Keep Me series focuses on the notion of self indulgence. In exploring the parallels between ‘valuable’ and ‘everyday’ I have drawn a symmetry of opposites between porcelain and confectionary items; both are similarly self indulgent, inspire desire and are coveted, but both are fundamentally frivolous. Advertising campaigns play to our vanity and suggestibility, and in the competition to see which brand can be the sexiest we don’t know any more whether we should be eating the chocolate pudding or pouring it all over ourselves! We are clearly enticed by the notion of food as a luxury, an indulgence, something a little bit naughty. And why not?

Light Spill

Just another teaser for those of you waiting for the launch of Light Spill. This and three other colourways will be available to buy very soon, hopefully by the end of the week. This week I will be producing a new batch of lights which will be used to illustrate the variety of colourways/patterns available on my website. The online shop is still a way off, but you can email me to reserve one of the batch currently in production. The first 5 (yes only five!) will be ready for shipping at the end of next week, after which I will be taking orders by email with a four week lead time as lights will be made to order. You can buy them 'off the shelf' for £250 + p&p, but for a small additional cost I can create bespoke designs to your requests. Email me for more information, and keep an eye on http://www.rebeccawilsonceramics.com/ to see the new designs!

By popular demand ... I'll be having them photographed professionaly and posting them on the main site on my return to Edinburgh from Origin and I'm aiming to add a shop to my website so I can sell these directly to you online! You can see the strawberry and the pearlescent versions above, but these can be customised to order with a wide range of patterns and surface finishes, and the retro silk braided flex comes in eight different colours to correspond. Then you should be ready to indulge yourself again in the calorie free ‘HOTPOT [art, food + people]’. Fife Contemporary Art & Craft in collaboration with SAC funded trainee curator Tonia Lu brings together a group of artists who present work which is inspired by the emotional relationship between food and people. Artists Ruth Archibald-Swaans, Gayle Chong Kwan, Alex Frost, Alex Wilde and Rebecca Wilson take part.

Ceramics by Rebecca Wilson explore the indulgent, frivolous even naughty nature of food cravings. The Eat Me; Keep Me series focuses on the notion of self indulgence. Titles of some works are borrowed from popular marketing slogans which are telling of the current attitude towards what we buy and eat. In today’s recession the supermarkets put the cross sections of the market firmly in their places with ‘best’ and ‘value’ ranges. Advertising campaigns play to our vanity and suggestibility, and in the competition to see which brand can be the sexiest we don’t know any more whether we should be eating the chocolate pudding or pouring it all over ourselves! We are clearly enticed by the notion of food as a luxury, an indulgence, something a little bit naughty, and equally so by Rebecca’s deliciously naughty ceramics.

http://www.axisweb.org/sneakpreview
http://www.fcac.co.uk/
Fife Contemporary Art and Craft
Town Hall
Queen's Gardens
St Andrews
Fife,
KY16 9TA
tel +44 (0) 1334-474610

Times Online - Artists Make Light of Domestic Routine

The C-Word: Craft Scotland is celebrating its artisans. Lets hope they're right!

Image, Eat Me;Keep Me, £575.

Haptics

Anne Marie Shilito is doing research at ECA's department of design and applied arts into a user centred haptic computing system for applied artists. This involves using a 3D haptics drawing machine, which is like a computer mouse that moves in three dimensions instead of two to allow you to draw forms in real space. The main application for this is to have the forms produced in a rapid prototyping machine as in the images above. The big difference in Ann Marie's work is that the software interface will be developed with makers and craftspeople in mind, to make it accesible to those who are not skilled in the ways of CAD. And thats where I come in. I'm going to be a guinnea pig for Ann Marie and her team to work on real live projects carried out as case studies so they can get direct feedback for development. The images shown are of A Wee Bit of Light Relief - the first attempt for us at making this piece, and also working together as a trio. Thankfully it was a great success on all fronts - it was well recieved at the VAS Annual Exhibition 2009 at the City Art Centre, and we're all still friends, so we have subsequently set to work on the second incarnation of Light Relief. Spanning 1m 20 accross it will be four times as big as the original, and will dominate the void above the main entrance of the Lighthouse Gallery.

Collect 2009 at the Saatchi Gallery

Craftscotland will present work by eleven Scottish artists at Collect: the International Art Fair for Contemporary Artists, and I'll be amongst them.
